Manager, Prospect Research

Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation is embarking on a $500 million Campaign to support world-class basic and clinical medical research within Mount Sinai Hospital and the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute (SLRI) and construction costs for hospital redevelopment, which includes 19 new Operating Rooms, new Emergency, Urgent Critical Care, Ambulatory Care and In-Patient Units. 

During this exciting time, Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation is seeking the highest caliber candidates to join our team.  We are currently seeking a motivated and efficient development professional to fill this essential position. 

 

 

Reporting to Vice President, Campaign, this is a unique opportunity for an experienced, creative and dedicated Prospect Research professional to lead the Foundation’s research and prospect management program in support of our new $500 million Campaign. 

 

The Manger, Prospect Research will work as an integrated member of the Foundation team, proactively advancing development activity by contributing their expertise to design and deliver a robust program to identify and manage donor prospects. 

 

Specifically, the Manager, Prospect Research will:

  • strategically design and develop the overall prospect research and prospect management program;
  • proactively develop new strategies for increased and enhanced prospecting activities and related database management, and ensure ongoing development of the prospect pipeline;
  • qualify potential major gift prospects using industry best practices;
  • oversee the preparation all materials and reports for prospect management meetings;
  • implement a research profile request system;
  • supervise and oversee research staff and interns
  • assign research requests to staff appropriately
  • provide prospect management, research and information literacy training to Foundation staff;
  • participate in the overall strategic development of Campaign operations;
  • maintain a budget, including agreements and licenses for all print and electronic resources and databases and liaise with vendors and publishers;
  • monitor and communicate news, events and issues that impact on the Foundation’s fundraising strategies and the philanthropic environment;
  • monitor all relevant privacy legislation and its impact on foundations and non-profit organizations and advise appropriate staff of legislated changes as necessary and consult with Hospital’s Corporate Privacy Officer and Legal Counsel as required;
  • supervise research staff and interns, as required;
  • liaise within the Foundation including Campaign and Major Gifts, Donor Relations, Legacy, Annual Giving, Finance and Communications Marketing;
  • performs other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:

 

  • Masters Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years direct prospect research and management experience in a not-for-profit environment, preferably in a healthcare setting and a sound knowledge of research and fundraising practices
  • Experience with The Raiser’s Edge database an asset
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy while inputting large quantities of information
  • Strong research skills with the ability to conduct complex Internet and database searches
  • An understanding of fundraising practices
  • Demonstrated independence and resourcefulness, while working within the framework of an integrated development program and team-oriented environment
  • Ability to maintain discretion regarding confidential and sensitive information
